Public bug reported:

Video playback shows only a pink screen on players that use the Xv
output plugin.

I am not sure of the exact steps to reproduce. First time playback after
login works fine. Subsequent playbacks are problematic. Sometimes, the
issue surfaces only after several plays. However, the first playback is
always successful. Once the pink screen issue occurs, then it happens
every time till the X11 session is re-started (logout-login or reboot).

Using 'gstreamer-properties' I set the default video device to Xv (X
Window System X11/XShm/Xv) and set the default device to 'NV05 Video
Blitter'. Now Totem was able to playback without issues. However
choosing 'NV17 Video Texture' caused the same problem. So I am guessing
that the default Xv device is being set to NV17 which seems to have some
problem. So if I change the default device to NV05 in gstreamer-
properties, gstreamer based players work, but other players using Xv are
still showing pink screen.
