I have the same problem and I have reasons to think that there may be a problem with Rhythmbox (0.11.2). With Gutsy, when I use a key to change the volume while Rhythmbox is the active window, it hangs for about 20 seconds and the other applications are affected too. However, these control keys work fine with any other gnome application I use (totem for example). Previously I used Feisty with Rhythmbox 0.10 and it didn't happen (everything worked fine).
