Public bug reported: Release: Ubuntu 17.10 (Development Release)
Version: 17.10.2 What you expected to happen: The installer should be able to automatically select the correct EFI partition when starting installation on systems with more than one bootable disks What happened instead: I was attempting install Artful over an existing Xubuntu 17.04 installation using the Upgrade option in the ubiquity installer, the installation fails to start with the error "Two file systems are assigned the same mount point (/boot/efi)", attempting to select the partitions manually in "Something else" afterwards crashes ubi-partman (exit code 141, syslog attached in report) and ubiquity becomes completely unresponsive and has to be manually killed. Disabling the Windows boot drive (sdc) in BIOS allows the installation to proceed normally. "fdisk -l" output of the affected system: Disk /dev/loop0: 1.5 GiB, 1626501120 bytes, 3176760 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk /dev/sda: 238.5 GiB, 256060514304 bytes, 500118192 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: gpt Disk identifier: FE5795C7-2E48-4578-B58C-296F100387EE Device Start End Sectors Size Type /dev/sda1 2048 391167 389120 190M EFI System /dev/sda2 391168 42334207 41943040 20G Linux filesystem /dev/sda3 42334208 491728895 449394688 214.3G Linux filesystem /dev/sda4 491728896 500117503 8388608 4G Linux swap Disk /dev/sdb: 298.1 GiB, 320071851520 bytes, 625140335 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: dos Disk identifier: 0x1dd51f00 Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type /dev/sdb1 2048 625139711 625137664 298.1G 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT Disk /dev/sdc: 447.1 GiB, 480103981056 bytes, 937703088 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: gpt Disk identifier: E4DB5475-7E96-4731-AB56-A66279798905 Device Start End Sectors Size Type /dev/sdc1 2048 923647 921600 450M Windows recovery environment /dev/sdc2 923648 1128447 204800 100M EFI System /dev/sdc3 1128448 1161215 32768 16M Microsoft reserved /dev/sdc4 1161216 937701375 936540160 446.6G Microsoft basic data Disk /dev/sdf: 29.8 GiB, 32015679488 bytes, 62530624 sectors Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disklabel type: dos Disk identifier: 0x0121d321 Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type /dev/sdf1 * 2048 62530623 62528576 29.8G c W95 FAT32 (LBA) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: artful ubiquity-17.10.1 ** Attachment added: "Syslog after ubiquity hangs" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1707857/+attachment/4925077/+files/syslog.txt ** Description changed: Release: Ubuntu 17.10 (Development Release) Version: 17.10.2 What you expected to happen: The installer should be able to automatically select the correct EFI partition when starting installation on systems with more than one bootable disks What happened instead: I was attempting install Artful over an existing Xubuntu 17.04 installation using the Upgrade option in the ubiquity installer, the installation fails to start with the error "Two file systems are assigned the same mount point (/boot/efi)", attempting to select the partitions manually in "Something else" afterwards crashes ubi-partman (exit code 141, syslog attached in report) and ubiquity becomes - completely unresponsive and has to be manually killed. + completely unresponsive and has to be manually killed.
