Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu. nmbd failed to start and gave this explanation: Status: "nmbd: No local IPv4 non-loopback interfaces available, waiting for interface ..."
You seem to have a local network configuration problem. Maybe your "interfaces" setting in /etc/samba/smb.conf is incorrect? Could you please share: - the logs files from /var/log/samba/log* - output of "sudo ip a" - process listing: output of "ps fauxw" And the status of these services by running this command: sudo systemctl status nmbd.service smbd.service samba-ad-dc.service samba.service Also, testparm(1) is highlighting that you seem to be using a lot of deprecated options in your /etc/samba/smb.conf file, maybe if you could clean those up we could narrow down what the real problem is: $ testparm ./smb.conf Load smb config files from ./smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384) WARNING: The "null passwords" option is deprecated Unknown parameter encountered: "password level" Ignoring unknown parameter "password level" Unknown parameter encountered: "update encrypted" Ignoring unknown parameter "update encrypted" WARNING: The "idmap uid" option is deprecated WARNING: The "idmap gid" option is deprecated Processing section "[homes]" Processing section "[netlogon]" Processing section "[profiles]" Processing section "[printers]" Processing section "[pdf-documents]" Processing section "[pdf-printer]" Loaded services file OK.
