Not sure if this helps, I am able to get Ubuntu, Gusty, to work on my HP DV6000 (DV6409wm). I had to set the flags noapic and nolapic during the initial boot from the live CD to get it to boot up. But from there it works fine. The Nvidia and Broadcom drivers load up as Restricted Drivers. I do no encounter sound issues.
