Can either of you get some logs, terminal output, or anything from the crashes? I haven't seen any myself, so can't really tell what's going on without some hints.
As a side note, newer versions of nautilus-dropbox should fix the indicator, and if you're still having issues you can change a line in /usr/bin/dropbox to include 'XFCE' in the array 'to_check'. Granted, this is a slight hack...
