Public bug reported:

Installed from Gutsy release Live CD using the following procedure to
work around the initramfs problem:

% live-nosplash-powerpc break=premount
...
(initramfs) modprobe ide_core
(initramfs) exit

The live CD then boots with errors about Bonobo and date set to 1904.
Ran the installer successfully.

Reboot, got to yaboot, selected 'Linux'. Final message is "Loading,
please wait."

After that the screen slowly changed colors to various blues and then
faded to white. At this point the machine is non-responsive and I
cannot get to virtual terminals.

Attempt to boot to single-user mode produced the same result.

Ideas or steps for further diagnosis?
