I managed to install Ubuntu 7.10 by unplugging my other dvd-drive. After
that, no problems. After ubuntu was installed and working, I reconnected
the other dvd-drive. Then, when booting ubuntu, it took quite a long
time to boot up, easily 2-3 times longer than usual. I decided to check
the dmesg logs, and found the same errors there as earlier. I am
attaching the relevant part of the logs here. Seems like my 2 dvd drives
are somehow conflicting. My motherboard (Asus P5B deluxe wifi) uses the
JMicron JMB363 chip to connect the ide devices to the system, and both
my dvd drives were connected to that controller.
