Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
Hardware: 13"Macbook, integrated Intel 950 GMA graphics OS: ubuntu 7.10 full release Xorg: 1:7.2-5ubuntu13(gutsy) Xrandr: 1:1.2.2-0ubuntu1 uname -a: Linux macbook 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux xorg.conf: Driver "intel" 915resolution package not installed When I connect my external 1920x1200 widescreen monitor through the DVI adapter to the Macbook: a) Ubuntu's "Screens and Graphics" GUI confiog tool doesn't recognize the dual screen situation. I can make the tool detect the correct external monitor model but it won't list the 1920x1200 nor the 1280x800 resolutions as options and certainly won't let me configure 2 screens for dual display (side-by-side e.g.) The tool even messes up the setup for the built-in laptop screen and cannot restore previously working configurations. When I selected "generic" LCD panel1280x800 for the built-in screen of my Macbook, the native resolution of 1280x800 is not detected. Switching back to the original "plug 'n play" model, same problem, the native resolution of 1280x800 is not detected and cannot restore the original settings anymore. Once I quit this tool, my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is full of modelines. The tool seems to overwrite the xorg.conf file so I can only restore my laptop screen by dumping that file, using the orginal backup version and never touch the "Screens and Graphics" tool. b) running xrandr manually, the 1920x1200 mode appears as an option for --output TMDS-1, ie the external monitor, at first. But when I actually try to enable it, the external screen gets all messed up and after a few seconds I see a message that the monitor doesn't support the signal. This used to work up until ~July/August'07 with xrandr 1.2.0 and an earlier version of X under FeistyFawn. Now only the lower resolution 1280x800 works on the external screen and allows me to place it --left-of LVDS. I had hoped that the dual screen situation was sorted by now. Maybe it's just a Mac issue but I was hoping I could show how ready Ubuntu on a laptop is for corporate use. Everyone at work is running around with laptops, plugging in+out of presentation projectors, video conference systems and desk monitors, back to laptop-only use, lids closed+reopened for suspend/sleep inbetween about 100x a day. Can we raise this issue I reported here to at least 'medium'? ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xrandr (or X) can't drive 2nd screen at 1920x1200 anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154859 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
