Thank you for opening the bug for 5.7 Leon. bug 1435823 holds already a lot of information - I recommend reading that for anyone working on this bug.
Actually I wonder what else is involved to trigger this. I installed mysql-server-5.[67] on Trusty, Xenial and Zesty and checked but all started fine and created the dir as needed. I didn't find that clearly on the old bug, but is that a racy issue that only occurs sometimes? ** Changed in: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1684462 Title: mysql-server fails to create /var/run/mysqld directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1684462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
