some more info (before i unfortunately have to deleted this OS, b/c i need to stay productive... :S ) I tried the above mentioned kernel boot option, making sure it is used (editing the kopt line in grub interestingly does not put the option in the boot command line!!!). To no avail, no change in behaviour. (And why the heck does a change of /etc/inittab default boot level to 1 leave me with a freezing system at boot???) Maybe important: In the RESCUE boot (which I had to use to change back the inittab) the problem does NOT occur! If somebody wants anymore feedback, (s)he better be quick, as I said, I have to kick this off soon. I will wait til tomorrow though, considering different timezones... :) Regards, Michael
