Peter, I may open a new launchpad bug (although I'll have to look through my older bugs, as I've reported the same issues before). Having said that, it's appropriate for me to let you know here that using your intel driver deb version 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu10~pcjc2.tst1 seems to have completely solved all crashes when switching VTs. I'll continue testing your package to check if any crashes occur.
