Compiling ALSA 1.0.15 with ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel fixed everything for me on ubuntu gutsy 64bit. I now can even suspend hibernate without loosing sound! note: I removed /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel since the driver gets installed into /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko
