@Till It seems to me that there are three inter-related issues, which I propose to track in three separate bugs.
(1) The actual maintainer script failure itself (not fixed) (2) The "regression" introduced by landing 2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2 which was supposed to fix (1) but didn't. This was resolved by deleting 2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2, so is Critical but Fix Released. (3) Some users appear to be having issues due to the deletion of 2.1.3-4ubuntu0.2 which I think is this bug. But since nobody has given us the output of "apt-cache policy cups", I propose to mark this bug Incomplete.
