This is a me-too post, I just started experiencing this and it's a real pain!
Running an updated install of the Gutsy Gibbon beta. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; sv-SE; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20071008 Ubuntu/7.10 Have been running with Compiz enabled for weeks with full effects and the Avant Window Manager too without a problem.
