** Description changed: * This is NOT a bug, but a feature request. * It is known that mechanical HDDs produce a lot of noise. I have several HDDs and mostly I use only one of them at every single moment. The problem is that ALL HDDs are working automatically when the PC starts. (I can hear them working even if the SATA port is disabled by the motherboard.) This not only wears down the HDDs, but also produces a lot of noise which shouldn't happen because that most of them aren't being used. It would be very helpful if Ubuntu would send a "Sleep State" command to all mechanical HDDs upon startup. (Sending that command to SSDs isn't required.) + + --- + + In addition, nautilus itself could verify upon each "unmount" action whether all HHDs are being used. + If there are HDDs which aren't being used (doesn't contain mounted partitions) - then nautilus could send a Sleep State to those mechanical HDDs. + + By "unmount action", I mean to the unmounting that happens when clicking + on the "up" arrow in the GUI of Nautilus where all available partitions + are presented.
