Hi! I've just tested the live CD (7.10 rc1) on the same machine and the problem doesn't show up. Indeed it is something related with the upgrade process.
Another side effect I've just notice is that there is no "Tooltip' when the cursor is over my launcher icons. I'll be glad to give you any additional information required to catch this bug.
