I just tried  both of them as well. The first one (0ubuntu8~bwh1) causes
a lockup before the computer has entered sleep mode. It looks as if the
crash is caused by the VT switching but I'm not sure.

The second package results in the original behaviour: A seemingly
working cursor against a black screen.
