Also, on Debian GNU/Hurd and Debian GNU/Linux (but not Debian GNU/kFreeBSD), size of archive members is limited to the width of the "long" type, that is, 2 GiB on platforms that do not have a 64-bit "long" type, due to a bug in the GNU C library (Debian #317466). Other limitations are documented in paxcpio(1): CAVEATS Different file formats have different maximum file sizes. It is recom‐ mended that a format such as cpio or ustar be used for larger files. File format Maximum file size ar 10 Gigabytes - 1 Byte bcpio 4 Gibibytes sv4cpio 4 Gibibytes cpio 8 Gibibytes tar 8 Gibibytes ustar 8 Gibibytes These are inherent to the archive format and cannot be changed at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/56764 Title: Unable to create files larger than 2GB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pax/+bug/56764/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
