I've continued Bryce's debugging on this (where he discovered that restoring the palette registers on switch to console mode could hard- lock the machine).
I've added a patch which stops the palette registers being restored for inactive pipelines in the display chip. (If the pipeliine is inactive, it appears trying to program its palette causes the lockup). The debdiff, sources and a .deb are at: http://www2.eng.cam.ac.uk/~pcjc2/ubuntu/ I'm not an Ubuntu or X.Org developer, so treat these as what they are.. unofficial and only tested by myself. The package also has a possible fix / workaround for LP #141063, which lets Xv work with compiz and not crash after a mode-switch. -- laptop hangs when switching video mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
