I have the same problem. When compiz starts automatically it disrupt the system tray and also doesn't display the title bars.
To solve it, I manually edit the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc and remove the lines below: [LegacySession: saved at previous logout] clientMachine1=localhost command1=/usr/bin/compiz.real,--ignore-desktop-hints,--replace,--indirect-rendering,--sm-client-id,1016e1b21a414d000119193455500000066010019,ccp count=1 I save the file and I restart the X with <ctrl><alt><backspace>. I login again and it solves my problem.
