Public bug reported: Since the upgrade to 16.04, when recording flux from my Freebox, VLC is using about 80 - 120 % of CPU (2 cores) and generates a save file of 10 GB in less than 5 minutes at low resolution (720 x 576), when it used to takes 1,5 to 2 hours to generate a few GB.
