Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

Hi,

we setup our computers by a network install system using preseeding.
After the debian installer has finished there are some scripts to
configure the machines which use 'in-target' to chroot into the target
and much more. We also run 'apt-get dist-upgrade' at some point during
'preseed/late_command' and at the point 'upstart' gets upgraded the
following happens:

--- Begin
Oct 8 19:29:57 Executing "apt-get dist-upgrade"
...
Oct 8 19:30:02 in-target: Get:6 http://ubi edgy-updates/main upstart 0.2.7-7.1
[93.9kB]
...
Oct 8 19:30:05 in-target: Preparing to replace upstart 0.2.7-7 (using
.../upstart_0.2.7-7.1_i386.deb) ...
Oct 8 19:30:05 in-target: Unpacking replacement upstart ...
...
Oct 8 19:30:11 in-target: Setting up upstart (0.2.7-7.1) ...
Oct 8 19:30:11 in-target:
Oct 8 19:30:11 init: The system is going down NOW !!
Oct 8 19:30:11 in-target: Setting up upstart-logd (0.2.7-7.1) ...
Oct 8 19:30:12 in-target: Setting up upstart-compat-sysv (0.2.7-7.1) ...
--- End

The machine get's restarted and the system is left unusable.

Removing 'edgy-updates' from /etc/init.d/sources.list or preventing an
'apt-get dist-upgrade' the installer runs just fine.

We don't know if the problem is 'upstart' or in-target, but in-target
normally interrupts calls to the start-stop-daemon. It's also not a good
idea to reboot the system during 'apt-get dist-upgrade'.

As you can see it's an edgy problem.

Greetings
Marcel
