This has been fixed since June in libdebian-installer[1], which is where
the magic lives that is used by archdetect to return whether or not
we're installing in EFI.

I expect that the 16.04.1 images would include these fixes, but earlier
(except dailies) would not. It would also be in effect in yakkety of
course.

Is there a chance you could try a new install, or at least tell us the
make and model of that system so we can run some further testing to make
sure it is properly fixed?
