I have a HP pavilion g6-2016ss notebook with Ralink rt5390R. Same issue. Wifi slow downs and dropping connection with default configuration based on NetworkManager. The correct driver up and running and default kernel. I have deleted NetworkManager stuff and installed wicd. Working fine, no slow downs nor dropping connection. It seems to be NetworkManager related issue.
