Public bug reported:

This may be somehow related to #149483, but I'll file it because it may
be larger problem. From what I gather, Pidgin talks with Network Manager
and tune some status informations and actions according to it. It cause
me no problems while I hand from wired or wireless connection. But 60%
of time I'm on GPRS modem that uses PPP connection. This connection is
not "The Internet" for NM, so it tells Pidgin that it's waiting for
connection.

Luckly, I can connect, but this status "waiting for connection" says
forever.

** Affects: pidgin (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
