Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Running gutsy [uptodate as of saturday, oct 6, 2007] with compiz enabled
& custom effects, using non-free nvidia driver, compiz's memory use
slowly climbs while performance degrades; after ~ 36 hours it had risen
to 43% of my 1 Gi of RAM (according to top). Workaround is to issue
metacity --replace & and then compiz --replace &; i guess the first step
can probably be left out but i didn't testthat just now.

in other cases the slowdown was so bad that the system was for all
intents and purposes frozen, and gdm had to be restarted remotely (and
veeeerrrry slowly).

anything i can do to help track down the source of the bug.
