Public bug reported: Just upgraded to ubuntu 16.04 LTS. While upgrading, it said there was a problem with gcc-doc. Read https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-defaults/+bug/1577192 which looked like my problem; hence, I took solution provided by Michael Michael Mauch:
I removed that script manually: sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/gcc-doc.prerm /tmp and then "sudo apt install gcc-doc" worked again. However, I guess that wasn't enough, because I logged out and logged in, an this problem occurred.
