Public bug reported: I had a working Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 8.1 dual boot system on Lenovo Ideapad P500 touch.
After upgrading to Windows 10, grub had issues identifying correct boot partition. I tried to re-install grub but it failed. I couldn't restore Ubuntu 14.04 ever since. I am now trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or even a fresh start will be ok. but installation fails due to failure of "grub-install" ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: ubiquity 2.21.63.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-31.50-generic 4.4.13 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-31-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.376 Date: Wed Aug 3 12:14:43 2016 InstallCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper only-ubiquity quiet splash --- LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SourcePackage: grub-installer UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug ubiquity-2.21.63.2 ubuntu xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1609480 Title: Ubuntu dual boot failed due to failure of "grub-install" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1609480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
