Analysis of the attached logs shows:
- this was an initial install of Ubuntu, using the 16.04.1 installation media.
- your system uses UEFI, so it is correct that the installer tries to install
grub-efi-amd64-signed and shim-signed.
- the EFI bootloader entries in nvram have been updated successfully to point
to shimx64.efi (if the grub-install call from shim-signed had failed, the
system would have been left with an "Ubuntu" entry pointing at grubx64.efi
instead, since grub-efi-amd64-signed is installed in a different run of
apt-get).
If the grub-install call in shim-signed.postinst has succeeded, the only
other thing that this script calls that could fail is update-secureboot-
policy. Unfortunately, the logs attached to this bug report don't show
the actual output from the shim-signed postinst, which makes it
impossible to diagnose this failure further. Do you have anything in
/var/log/apt/term.log now that mentions shim-signed?
