After much testing and upgrading to wxwidgets 2.8.6 (debian source packages from http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ compiled by myself with pbuilder) I've found that the problem was caused by a couple of corrupt part files. So, this is really an upstream problem caused by a corner case. I'll mark this bug as invalid as it is really an upstream bug (still present in current development snapshots).
