ASIDE: I also have trouble with older kernels because the default partitioning by Dell made /boot too small. So I constantly need to apt-get remove old linux-image-'s to make room for new ones. So I probably do not have any older kernels on my computer. I am willing to do the experiment, but I will need more guidance, i.e., how to install and then how to boot an older kernel.
