Same problem here - Screen stays black, and won't even boot into X. Only solution to remove "splash" from menu.lst.
x64x2, 8800GTS I tried modifying my initrd to include "fbcon" - same results. I tried modifying CONSOLE_SCREEN="true" in /etc/init.d/usplash - same results. I tried passing the vga= option in kernel paramater list - same results. The only error in dmesg is: [ 21.000414] ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... error, file /DSDT.aml not found.
