The asymmetrical envelope is just the most visible example of a general problem: all icons are rendered worse in the status bar than they are in the open menu bar.
Here’s a magnified screenshot showing some of the other icons in the status bar (top) vs. the menu bar (bottom): the location reticle lines are blurrier, the triangles inside the Bluetooth icon are closed up, the strokes of the roaming “R” are 3 lighter pixels wide vs. 2 darker pixels, and so on. (Most menu bar icons in this screenshot are also darker, but that’s unrelated.) I thought maybe the closed icons were being scaled to an unintended size. But the ones I measured are exactly the same number of pixels high. They’re just being rendered differently. So this is similar to bug 1472511. ** Attachment added: "screenshot of the problem, magnified" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-messages/+bug/1595139/+attachment/4689621/+files/Indicator%20icons%20closed%20vs.%20open.png ** Description changed: I see it both on the phone bq e4.5 and the tablet bq M10FHD. - The envelope icon looks asymmetrical.
