I don't see how this is a ubiquity bug. hal-device-manager is the thing that's crashing.
Why are you trying to install ubiquity on a normal system (as opposed to the live CD, where it is preinstalled)? That won't work. If you encounter a problem with the installer from the desktop CD, please report that as a separate bug.
