Hi Christopher, I am using the kernel from upstream. This bug seems to be related with DHCP. It seems having a hard time getting connection when set to DHCP. I gave the laptop a static IP address and it is able to connect to wifi every time. Won't be comfortable bringing this laptop anywhere though, it won't connect to DHCP.
