BTW, more recent versions of xz (5.2 and later) now have support for multiple cores built-in -> bug 1493999 It was an easy backport, so I compiled trusty pixz for you, have a look in my stable release PPA. https://launchpad.net/~r0lf/+archive/ubuntu/stable/ If it's similar smooth sailing, I'll see about backporting the yakkety version as well.
