Same problem here. The packet "linux-restricted-modules-generic" shows up as broken and booting stops short of X. I've found a different behaviour in Ubuntu and Kubuntu.
1- Laptop with Kubuntu amd64 No way to get into X. Rebooting and starting the previous kernel finds everything in place. Maybe - yet not tested - fixing xorg.conf to use nv non restricted driver should work and let me go through. 2- Desktop with Ubuntu amd64 Boot stops before X and tells me to reconfigure xorg.conf. Done that, I got in. No more 3D of course as linux-restricted-modules-generic is not there anymore. Going back to the previous kernel and trying to rehabilitate 3D tells me I've got no more nvida-restriced driver and asks me to download it. In examining xorg.conf I found that my LCD screen is not recognized anymore and a generic is set. Scrolling the list to get the right one, while reconfiguring, shows my screen is not listed anymore. Not a big deal as generic works fine, it seems, but it makes wonder... -- [Gutsy] Update fails to install "linux-restricted-modules-generic" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149661 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
