I did some tests and have no idea of they have any relevance at this point but i thought i share them maybe they are useful for someone.
Since i guesse that there are more ppl out there with windows > vmware player > ubuntu 16.04 guest i would think that there would be more reports but there are not. - Disabling 3d acceleration for the vm - no difference - gnome / LXDE / openbox / ubuntu default (unity?) -- When using unity? the screen stretches but same error no frame buffer.
