I have the exact same issues as described above, also i find it very sad
that this big has been around for over a year without a decent fix.
Sound stops/starts working seemingly randomly but has todo with
AC/Battery and/or ACPI, very annoying problem and a lot of users are
struggling with this. I have no problems with sound when running the old
ubuntu 6.x but 7.x gives me the randomness described by other, i dont
fancy having to use tricks (remove batter or boot without ac) to fix
sound. It seems we're left in the cold, asla dev. and ubuntu dev isnt
doing anything, this bug hasnt even got priority. I hope one day this
big will be fixed, until then i will keep using FreeBSD ony my v3010au
notebook.

HP/Compaq v3010au (v3000 series)
Ubuntu 7.04 and Ubuntu 7.10 both give sound problems
Ubuntu 6.04 is perfectly fine.

Audio (rev a2)

/me prays to any availible gods to have working sound before 2020.
