Kees, the hpssd daemon is not packaged incorrectly. The "hplip" package contains everything architecture-dependent, especially all binaries compiled from C code. The "hplip-data" package contains everything architecture-independent, especially all Python scripts. "hplip" depends on "hplip-data", so the installation of the latter is assured. hpssd is written in Python, so it belongs into "hplip-data". This is done to save space on the mirrors. "hplip-data" is needed only once for all architectures.
