originally had a ~/.gnome2/eog file. just because you said eog directory, i created a ~/.gnome2/eog/ directory and that seems to have fixed the problem. it wasn't a permissions problem, it was because eog was a file, not a directory. creating the directory seems to work. i'll let you know if there are any problems.
