Applying this patch to the ltrace package in xenial, I can confirm that 'ltrace ps' and 'ltrace ls' work. I still see aborts from ltrace when running some other commands (e.g., trying to run debuild under ltrace):
ltrace: breakpoints.c:194: breakpoint_turn_off: Assertion `bp->enabled >= 0' failed.
