same issue here.
This is gutsy with latest updates and bcm43xx driver installed per 
restricted-manager. (This went fairly well, to my surprise. I was happy since I 
didn't have to use ndiswrapper.)
Unfortunately the lights are always on.
This is a HP Compaq nx6125 (Sempron).
(Having used ndiswrapper with Feisty I can tell you what the normal behavior 
should be:
WLAN switched off: Lights off.
WLAN switched on but not connected: Lights flashing.
WLAN switched on and connected: Lights constantly on.
