Today, i reinstalled windows, so i decided to take my sound card (a creative sound blaster live! 24 bit) and try my luck with my onboard sound, and after i re-enabled my onboard sound in the bios, i booted into ubuntu and suspended, and upon coming out i still have sound. (i also got a new usb headset which doesnt plug into the onboard sound ports obviously but i dont think that had any effect)
