FYI I have openjdk-8-jre (in addition to openjdk-7-jre), and the Arduino
IDE 1.6.7 seems to run after replacing the official Arduino supplied
"java" subfolder with a symlink to /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-i386.
I haven't done any systemaric tests though, and will be running the
version of the IDE I downloaded from arduino.cc until the Ubuntu package
hopefully eventually catches up.
