Hi Niels, I'm very sorry there's not been much reply on your bug until now. The good news is that a lot of work has been done on monitor resolution autodetection issues for Gutsy, and it's likely your issue has been solved, particularly bug 27667. If not, we've also added a new GUI Screen & Graphics tool for specifying them.
There are still some open bugs we've not yet solved, the most common of which is bug 94994; you can see if that is your bug by running ddcprobe and seeing if it gives an 'edidfail' in its output; this potentially may be fixed for Gutsy if I have luck working on it. Another still-open bug similar to this one is 49827; I hope to solve that one for Hardy. Also, thanks for offering to pay consulting to look at it, but hopefully we can solve it in Gutsy without that.
