I have an Asus S96S with TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-L632D drive. I'd been running it for about a week now without incident, when this rather nasty bug appeared from nowhere. I wasn't using the drive and there was nothing in it.
I tried everything I could think of, but in the end it was just too unresponsive, so I had to reset the computer. Thanks a lot to those who have found the solution!
