I added some more information about the issue to #Bug 1509603 because if you are googling around for grub you'd be more likely to find it.
Summary is that Jan H (janh2) discovered the problem, which is a broken toram option. There's a workaround, but only if you have a second disk drive (or of course are willing to burn a DVD).
