I had this problem on Kubuntu 14, VLC 2.2.1 Audio was lost after seeking forward or back through the video, especially large ones. It fixed when I changed the Audio Preferences(Simple): Output Module from Automatic to ALSA audio output, & Device to 'Playback/recording through PulseAudio server'. then restarting VLC. Strangely, changing to those options in Preferences (All) did not fix the problem.
